St. George Temple at Dusk

I got into St. George after a spring storm when there were still a few good clouds in the sky. I shot with the big camera the first afternoon and got some great variety with the changing light and clouds. After finally getting the film scanned I recently sat down to work on an image in Photoshop to get it ready to print. Several hours later I had to go do something else and forgot to save what I had done. We had a little interruption in the power supply overnight and all my work was gone in the morning. That'll teach me - hopefully.
I shot some tests the first night after sunset to check composition and color balance with my little digital camera. It's amazing how just a little change in position can dramatically affect the look of the composition. The St. George Temple (like most Temples) has its challenges. I was pretty much relegated to shoot right up against the Visitors' Center to get a good oblique view of the Temple. There are a lot more trees on the other side, making it hard to get a nice, powerful composition.
I came back to this spot early the next morning with the big camera to be ready for sunrise. After several trips hauling my stuff from the car I started to set up. I'm always amazed how many older folks are up way before dawn, exercising around the Temples. One sister stopped her power-walking and told me several hilarious stories while I was waiting to shoot. She also got in a few jabs at her husband who was still home in bed.
