Snowflake Temple Clouds
Beside the wind, the one weather feature I associate Snowflake with is beautiful clouds. The clouds that build up in the afternoons in the summer are my favorites. I took my family to Snowflake for Pioneer Days last month and we drove out to the Temple in the afternoon. With blue skies above, we were surrounded by dark storm clouds. In less than ten minutes they closed in and we had an amazing storm that dumped rain for hours and seemed to follow us almost all the way back down to Mesa that night.
It seems like when the clouds in Snowflake are at their best I'm either busy with family activities or don't have my gear with me. On this day, I was prepared to shoot but the clouds kept their distance off to the east. They built enough to provide a nice background. Any higher and they would have obscured the statue of Moroni. As it is, it seems to be standing right on the top of the cloud.
I've mentioned before that the bright, contrasty light of midday isn't ideal, but sometimes the other elements of the image make it worthwhile.

There aren't any Temple pictures that Richard does that I don't like. He is incredibly talented. His pictures and comments are very expressive. Thanks so much for sharing them with us Richard.
