Stormy Nauvoo

After spending several wet, stormy days in Nauvoo I was anxious to photograph the Temple. Among LDS Temples, the Nauvoo Temple is an icon. It's symbolic of the struggles of the early Saints and a modern rebirth of an important location in Church history.
The day started out rainy but looked promising late in the morning. Mid-day light is not ideal photographically, so I decided to visit Carthage for a few hours. I drove through rain until just outside of Carthage where the sky cleared and stayed that way for hours. Driving back to Nauvoo I hit a storm that looked like it would continue through the day.
The weather in the Midwest can change quickly, and it did. The rain stopped, but thankfully, the dramatic clouds remained. I had scouted this location days before and was happy to find no cars parked in front of the Temple. This composition is a little further away and features the front of the Temple more prominently. The soft, even light lets the Temple stand bright and strong against a stormy sky.
